NEC Aterm IT55DSU Setup for Macintosh
The following screen shots show the settings I made using the Raku-Raku Utility supplied with the NEC Aterm IT55DSU. To use the Raku-Raku Utility with JLK (Japanese Language Kit), you must register it with the Japanese Language Register. Otherwise, menus and dialog boxes appear as mojibake. Thanks to Julian for pointing this out. If you intend to configure your IT55DSU with an English-only Mac, these screen shots should prove helpful.
Below is the main window of the Raku-Raku Utility.
Use Command-A to select the Port A settings window shown below. Since I'm using Port A with a G3 fax, I set it to fax/modem.
Use Command-B to select the Port B settings window shown below (Command-C for Port C settings). I'm not using Ports B and C, so I turned them both off.
By default, the IT55DSU is configured to disconnect if the Data port is idle for 10 minutes. I was going to set this to 20 minutes but discovered that 10 minutes was the maximum. Seeing as my ISP disconnects automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity, I opted to turn this feature off altogether, as shown on the screen shot below. Use Command-P, then Command-D to get to this window.
Command-S, then Command-K will take you back to the main window. From here choose Quit from the File menu, or Command-Q. The following dialog box appears.
Click the leftmost button to update the IT55DSU settings and quit, the middle button to quit without updating, or the rightmost button to cancel.
Just in case you're wondering why I didn't make any settings for a telephone, it's because I still use an analog line for that (long story :-)
