ISDN costs consist of: installation, monthly rental, and usage charges.
All prices are subject to consumption tax.
Installation
Column 1 shows the cost of installing an analog telephone line. Column 2 shows the cost of installing a new ISDN line. Column 3 shows how much it costs to convert an existing analog line to ISDN, with NTT doing the installation and hookup. In column 4, NTT only do the installation and you do the hookup, this being the cheapest option. Hookup merely consists of connecting your computer and telephone equipment to the TA/DSU and making the necessary settings.

What about monthly charges?
The following table shows ISDN line fees, analog line fees, and how much more expensive ISDN is compared to analog.

Compared with having two analog telephone lines, ISDN works out cheaper. For example, two analog home lines both with push-button phones cost ¥4,280/month. The same service with ISDN, however, costs just ¥2,830. That's a saving of ¥1,450. To have two independent telephone numbers with ISDN, however, you have to pay ¥900/month for Dial-In, narrowing the saving down to ¥550. Business customers can save ¥2,350/month, or ¥1,450 including the Dial-In number.

Usage Charges
What about call charges?
Calls made using ISDN are charged at the same rate as those made using analog equipment. In addition, the increased speed means you'll spend less time downloading Web pages and files, so you'll be able to get off line quicker. Of course, you may find that the added speed encourages you to spend more time online.

INS Tele-Hodai
With NTT's Tele-Hodai service you pay a fixed monthly rate for all calls made to two specified numbers between 11 pm and 8 am, regardless of the number of calls or the duration of each call.

The following table shows how much it costs to send a B4 fax in Japan using G4 F-Net. As the charges are calculated on distance and not time, F-Net costs the same even for faxes containing a lot of detail. Detailed faxes usually take longer to transmit by G3, and, therefore, cost more.
